Design and simulation of gears trains using CAE- CAD Systems

Currently all stages of the design and project of mechanical components prior to the manufacture of a prototype are carried out using CAD/CAE software with technical and economic advantages. FEM analysis advantageously evaluates different types of analysis, compared to traditional project techniques. The possible differences in results between different software forces the design engineer to discern whether the differences come from the resolution algorithms, from differences in meshing, from operating conditions or from a difference in the standards applied. This work compares the result of the design of a pair of gears by CAE software under AGMA 2001 D04 Standard (metric) with the FEM analysis by a specific software of the same pair designed with CAD software. Care has been taken to apply the same standards, loads, design conditions, expected life and reliability. Data and adopted coefficients, compared results and conclusions are reported.
